3 tips to build a brand on Pinterest
Define your niche, find your audience — Passionate about model trains layouts? Brainwashed by home makeovers? Obsessed with aesthetically pleasing charts rife with industry-specific advice? There is a Camp Pinterest for everyone, and every interest — which makes for some seriously targeted marketing. If you can identify your brand niche and start following similar accounts, you’ll gain access to a curated collection of Pinners. For even deeper engagement, join or create Pinterest group boards, where communities of Pinterest users can contribute repinned content, ask questions, and engage with your brand.
Make aesthetics count — Remember, Pinterest is an artsy day camp, not a rough-and-tumble sleepaway camp. Your creative vision must manifest an aesthetic. If you haven’t already compiled a brand guide, check out Pinterest for inspiration — then make good use of that brand aesthetic while constructing and running your Pinterest account. To convey a sense of brand on our page, we made our profile picture the QCC logo and added branded pins to use as cover photos for each of our boards.
Use keywords — Speaking of boards, if you want to optimize your Pinterest reach, it’s a good idea to use relevant keywords in your boards. SEO AI Diib advises, “...create some boards with titles that match your keywords categories – the full category name that people search. The board descriptions should be complete sentences, detailed and very relevant to what you’ve titled the board. Be sure to add your business name, just in case someone searches for it.” It’s also a good idea to use brand keywords in your Pinterest profile description — though you’re limited to 160 characters, so choose wisely.
*Bonus Tip: If you’re creating or reposting to Pinterest, make sure you’re choosing content that’s vertically oriented. Just make sure it’s not too tall. If the ratio is greater than 1:3.5, it will get cut off in the Pinterest feed. The suggested ratio is 2:3 and the ideal post dimensions are 1000 x 1500px.
